If you have a Texas Lone Star Card, it can do a lot more than pay for groceries. The same card that carries your SNAP food benefits also opens museum doors across San Antonio for free or $3, cuts two popular shopping memberships roughly in half, and unlocks a handful of other savings most families never hear about.
None of this spends your food benefits. For the museum discounts, you are not paying with SNAP at all — you just show your card and a photo ID at the ticket desk. Here is the full list, verified for 2026.
First, how Museums for All works
Museums for All is a national program that lets anyone receiving SNAP benefits visit participating museums for $3 or less per person, for up to four people, when they show their EBT card and a photo ID. Seven San Antonio museums and attractions take part. A family of four that would normally pay full price at each stop can spend a whole Saturday out for the cost of one regular ticket — or less.
The 7 San Antonio museums on the list
1. McNay Art Museum — FREE
The McNay, at 6000 N. New Braunfels Ave., is the best deal on this list: admission is free for SNAP, WIC, and MAP recipients through Museums for All, including special exhibitions. Just present your EBT card and a photo ID. Regular general admission is $23, so a family of four saves real money here.
2. The Witte Museum — $3 per person
The Witte, at 3801 Broadway, offers $3 admission per person for guests with an EBT card through Museums for All. Dinosaurs, Texas wildlife, and the H-E-B Body Adventure make this an easy first pick with kids.
3. San Antonio Museum of Art — $3
SAMA, at 200 W. Jones Ave. on the Museum Reach of the River Walk, offers $3 general admission through Museums for All for SNAP families, for up to four people. That covers the permanent collection spanning thousands of years of art.
4. San Antonio Botanical Garden — $3
The Botanical Garden, at 555 Funston Place, offers $3 admission when you bring your SNAP EBT or WIC card and a valid photo ID to the admissions kiosk — no registration needed ahead of time. Regular adult admission runs well into double digits, so the savings are steep for a full day outdoors.
5. The DoSeum — reduced admission for up to 4 guests
San Antonio’s children’s museum, at 2800 Broadway, takes part in Museums for All and lists a $13 saving off admission for up to four guests. Regular admission is $18 per person for ages 1 and up, so check the DoSeum’s Plan Your Visit page for the current Museums for All rate before you go.
6. Briscoe Western Art Museum — Museums for All participant
The Briscoe, on the River Walk downtown, is a listed Museums for All participant. Show your EBT card and photo ID at admission and ask for the Museums for All rate, which the program caps at $3 or less per person.
7. Blue Star Contemporary — Museums for All participant
Blue Star Contemporary, in the Blue Star Arts Complex in Southtown, is also a listed Museums for All participant. Bring your EBT card and photo ID and ask at the desk for the reduced rate.

8. Amazon Prime Access — $6.99/month
If you receive qualifying government assistance, including SNAP, Amazon offers Prime Access at $6.99 per month instead of the regular Prime price. You verify with your EBT card or benefit documentation on Amazon’s Prime Access page. Prime is not required to shop with EBT on Amazon, but the discounted rate helps if you use the shipping and streaming benefits.
9. Amazon grocery delivery subscription for EBT customers — $4.99/month
Amazon also offers a separate grocery delivery subscription for customers with a registered EBT card, listed at $4.99 per month, covering qualifying grocery delivery orders over $25 from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and participating local stores where available. Check availability for your San Antonio address before signing up.
10. Walmart+ Assist — half price
Walmart+ Assist gives people on qualifying assistance programs, including SNAP, the full Walmart+ membership at half price: $6.47 per month or $49 per year, instead of $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Eligibility is verified through SheerID, and you re-verify once a year. The membership includes free delivery on qualifying orders and other regular Walmart+ perks.
11. Groceries online with EBT at Walmart
You can add your EBT card to your Walmart account and pay for SNAP-eligible groceries online for pickup or delivery in all 50 states. Delivery fees and non-food items cannot be paid with SNAP, so keep a second payment method on the order for those.
12. Groceries online with EBT on Amazon
Amazon accepts SNAP EBT for eligible groceries through Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market where those services are available, and you do not need a Prime membership to use your EBT card there. Filter for SNAP-eligible items as you shop.
13. Lifeline phone and internet discount
Households that receive SNAP generally qualify for Lifeline, the federal program that gives a monthly discount on phone or home internet service through participating providers. If you are paying full price for a phone plan, this is worth a look — our guide to free internet in San Antonio walks through local options too.
14. Seeds and food plants with SNAP
SNAP benefits can buy seeds and plants that produce food for your household — vegetable seeds, herbs, fruit trees, and starter plants. A few dollars of benefits in spring can turn into months of tomatoes, peppers, and herbs, which is a very San Antonio way to stretch a food budget.
15. Stack your card with free museum hours
Several of these same museums also run regularly scheduled free hours for everyone, EBT card or not. If your Museums for All visit falls on a special exhibition you want to see, timing a trip around a free-hours day can save even more. Check each museum’s visit page before you go, since free hours and special-exhibition fees change.
What to bring, and what to watch for
- Bring your Lone Star Card and a photo ID. Every Museums for All desk on this list asks for both.
- The discount is for admission, not paid with benefits. You pay the $3 (where it applies) with cash or a regular card — your SNAP balance is untouched.
- Special exhibitions can cost extra. At some museums a featured exhibit carries a separate ticket even during discount or free hours. The McNay’s free Museums for All admission includes special exhibition access; ask at other desks.
- Guard your PIN. Texas HHSC warns that it will never call, text, or email asking for your card number or PIN. Check your balance only through the Your Texas Benefits app or site, or the Lone Star Card Help Desk at 800-777-7328.

Frequently asked questions
Do I pay for museum admission with my SNAP benefits?
No. Museums for All is a discount, not a benefit purchase. You show your Lone Star Card and photo ID to prove you receive SNAP, then pay the reduced admission — $3 or less, and free at the McNay — with cash or a regular debit or credit card. Your food balance is not touched.
How many people can get in on one EBT card?
The Museums for All program rate covers up to four people per card shown. The San Antonio Museum of Art and the DoSeum both describe their offers in terms of up to four guests.
Does a WIC card work, or only SNAP EBT?
At several San Antonio stops, yes. The McNay lists SNAP, WIC, and MAP recipients for free admission, and the Botanical Garden accepts a SNAP EBT or WIC card with photo ID for its $3 rate. Rules vary by museum, so bring whichever benefit card you have plus your ID.
What if I lost my Lone Star Card?
Call the Lone Star Card Help Desk at 800-777-7328 to report it and request a replacement, or use the Your Texas Benefits app to freeze your card and manage your PIN. For help with benefits questions, call 2-1-1 and choose option 2.
