Two rows deserve a second look. Texas state offices close Friday too — the day after Thanksgiving is a Texas state holiday, even though it is not a federal one, so an HHSC errand cannot be finished in person until Monday, November 30. And CPS Energy and SAWS are city-owned, so expect their offices to follow the City’s two closed days — outage help never closes: CPS Energy’s outage line is (210) 353-4357, day or night.
Finish these by Wednesday, November 25
- Anything that needs a person at a desk — a benefits question at an HHSC office, a county errand, a library computer session for an application. Offices reopen Monday, November 30.
- Prescriptions. Many pharmacies run short hours Thursday. Move refills up to Tuesday or Wednesday.
- Food pickups. Most pantry and distribution schedules shift Thanksgiving week. Confirm your pickup day early in the week — our Thanksgiving help guide lists the programs and their signup windows.
- Anything mailed. There is no regular mail on Thursday, so a form or payment mailed Wednesday is the last safe send of the week.
- Utility bills. Pay or make your arrangement before the holiday — offices that could help you in person are dark Thursday and Friday.
