If your family gets SNAP in Texas — the program most people still call food stamps — March is a long month, and that matters for your grocery budget. Texas loads Lone Star Cards on a staggered schedule from the 1st through the 28th, based on the last two digits of your EDG number. In March 2027, the first deposits land on Monday, March 1, and the last group — EDG ending in 96–99 — is scheduled for Sunday, March 28, even though the month runs three more days to March 31. Here is your exact March date, how to check it, and how to plan the stretch. Applying for SNAP is always free.

Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) issues SNAP on the schedule in its Texas Works Handbook (section B-250). Find the last two digits of your EDG number and read across:

Your EDG number is printed on your approval letter (form TF0001) — and that same letter prints your own deposit day, which is the safest source of all. Many Texans see the money show up the night before their scheduled date, so it is worth checking your balance that evening.
The March timing to plan for
March 2027 has 31 days, but the deposit schedule still ends on the 28th. Three dates are worth circling:
- Monday, March 1 — if your EDG ends in 00–03, your March deposit is scheduled for the first day of the month. Your next deposit after that is April 1, a full 31 days later — the longest stretch of the year so far, so plan pantry staples early in the month.
- Sunday, March 28 — if your EDG ends in 96–99, your deposit is scheduled for Sunday, March 28. That is exactly 28 days after your February 28 deposit. Check your balance in the Your Texas Benefits app that day, and if it does not show when expected, call the Lone Star Card help line at 800-777-7328.
- March 29–31 — no new deposits are scheduled on the last three days of March. If your money runs low in that final week, San Antonio food pantries and the San Antonio Food Bank distributions are free — call 2-1-1 to find the closest one to you.
A few ways to get ahead of it:
- Stretch the early-March deposit. If you are in the March 1 group, set aside staples at the start of the month instead of waiting. Our February 2027 payment dates guide has the schedule you are coming off of.
- Keep your case current. A missed renewal or an unanswered HHSC letter can interrupt a deposit entirely. Our Texas SNAP renewal checklist walks through what to check.
- If your benefits stopped, act fast. See what to do if your food benefits stopped in Texas for the steps to check your case and reapply.
Which schedule am I on?
- Certified on or after May 1, 2023 → the table above.
- Certified before May 1, 2023 → keep your existing day. Your schedule was set when you were first certified and does not change just because the handbook table exists. Do not switch to the table above on your own — the day printed on your TF0001 award letter is your day.
- A long break can move you. If you were certified before May 1, 2023, then had a break in benefits of at least six months and reapplied after May 1, 2023, you move onto the current table above. This is the number-one reason people think their deposit “moved.”
How much could your household get?
The current federal fiscal year amounts took effect October 1, 2026, and stay in place through September 2027. These are the maximum monthly amounts — most households get less, because the actual benefit depends on income, household size, and deductions:
| Household size | Maximum per month |
|---|---|
| 1 | $306 |
| 2 | $562 |
| 3 | $808 |
| 4 | $1,023 |
| 5 | $1,217 |
| 6 | $1,463 |
The minimum monthly benefit for one- and two-person households is $25. One Texas rule to remember at the register: since April 1, 2026, you can no longer buy candy or sweetened drinks with your Lone Star Card. Regular groceries, milk, and plain water are unaffected.

Frequently asked questions
What day will my March 2027 SNAP benefits arrive in Texas?
It depends on the last two digits of your EDG number. Deposits run March 1–28 on the HHSC schedule in the table above. Households certified before May 1, 2023 keep the day printed on their TF0001 award letter.
Why do March deposits stop on the 28th if March has 31 days?
The HHSC schedule always runs from the 1st through the 28th, whatever the month. In a 31-day month like March, that simply means no new deposits are scheduled on March 29, 30, or 31 — your next deposit is your April date.
Where do I find my EDG number?
On your TF0001 approval or award letter from HHSC. The letter also prints your deposit day. If you cannot find the letter, call the Lone Star Card help line at 800-777-7328.
Did SNAP amounts change for March 2027?
No new change takes effect in March. The current maximums — $306 for a household of one up to $1,463 for six — began October 1, 2026, and stay in place through September 2027. Your actual amount depends on your income, household size, and deductions.
