Holiday help in San Antonio runs on deadlines, and most of them close before December. This is the single list: every Thanksgiving and Christmas signup date for 2026, in the order they close — what each program gives, who it is for, and whether it is still open. Every date below comes from the program’s own page, checked October 30, 2026.
One rule to know: these programs fill up. A closing date is the last possible day — several close early when they reach capacity. If your family needs the help, sign up the day you read this, not the day it closes.
The deadlines, in order
Nov. 1 — SAPD Blue Santa signups OPEN (toys & gifts for kids)
Apply in person at any SAPD substation through December 6. Bring a CPS Energy or SAWS bill and each child’s birth certificate. Children newborn to 12, San Antonio residents. Deliveries arrive roughly Dec. 15–24. Details: sapdbluesanta.org · (210) 207-6823
Nov. 1 — Food4SA begins (Thanksgiving food drive, all month)
The San Antonio Food Bank’s month-long drive runs Nov. 1–30. If your family needs food now — any month, not just holidays — the Food Bank can connect you: (210) 337-3663.
Nov. 7 — Turkeys for Teachers: SOLD OUT
Firstmark Credit Union’s free turkeys for 1,000 Pre-K–12 teachers (Nov. 7, 9 AM–12 PM) are fully claimed — registration is sold out, checked Oct. 30. Teachers: the next step is our Thanksgiving help guide — the Food Bank and the programs below are still open.
Nov. 7, 14 & 22 — Turkey Collection Saturdays (for donors)
Drop off a frozen turkey at H-E-B College Park (Nov. 7), H-E-B Leon Springs (Nov. 14), or any H-E-B Plus (Nov. 22), 10 AM–2 PM. These turkeys become local families’ Thanksgiving dinners.
Nov. 10 — Soldiers’ Angels Holiday Adopt-A-Family CLOSES (military & veteran families)
Registration closes November 10, or sooner if it fills. For E1–E6 active-duty, activated Guard/Reserve, post-9/11 veterans with a 10%+ VA disability rating, and veterans in HUD-VASH. Registered children receive gifts ($50–$75 value each) plus a grocery gift card ($75–$125) for the holiday meal. Apply: soldiersangels.org · (210) 629-0020
Nov. 14 — Operation Homefront Holiday Meals, San Antonio (military families) — WAITLIST
The San Antonio event is Saturday, Nov. 14, 9 AM–12 PM, and it is currently waitlisting — join the waitlist and watch your email; spots open as families cancel. For active-duty, activated Guard/Reserve, and post-9/11 wounded, ill, or injured service members. Register: operationhomefront.org
Nov. 18 — Gather and Give food drive ENDS
Working Moms of San Antonio Foundation’s drive (goal: full Thanksgiving groceries for 50 local families) collects through Nov. 18 — sponsor a family’s meal for $60 or drop food at Fleet Feet, 17603 La Cantera Pkwy #117.
Dec. 6 — SAPD Blue Santa signups CLOSE
The last day to apply in person (see Nov. 1 above). After Dec. 6 there is no late window.
Open now, no closing date published — do not wait
Angel Tree (Salvation Army San Antonio) — Christmas gifts for children. Registration is open now at saangeltree.org. San Antonio’s Angel Tree has not published a closing date — and Angel Tree windows in other Texas cities have already closed for 2026, so apply this week. If the site says your ZIP code is not served, call the San Antonio Area Command at (210) 352-2000.
Toys for Tots — Bexar County — new toys for children. The Bexar County campaign has not posted its own 2026 dates yet (checked Oct. 30). Request a toy through toysfortots.org now — nationally, most campaigns close around mid-November, and waiting for a posted date is how families miss it. Watch your email (and spam folder) for pickup details.
Elf Louise Christmas Project — toys delivered to children’s homes. There is no public signup and no deadline: families are referred by schools, churches, and agencies. If your family needs a referral, ask your child’s school counselor or call (210) 224-1843 to ask how referrals work.

If a deadline already passed you by
Closed doors are not the end.
